1) Identify why you want to quit.

Knowing why you want to quit vaping can help you stay motivated on your goal. Ask yourself how vaping may be affecting your life by impacting your health, relationships with others, school-work or grades, activities, money-spending patterns, etc.

It may be useful to create a list of all the reasons you want to stop vaping, and look at the risk when you feel an urge to vape.

2) Learn your triggers.

It is not uncommon for certain locations, situations, or feelings to cause you to have an urge to vape. It may be best to avoid these types of situations when you decide to quit. Avoid places where other people may be vaping.

3) Prepare for withdrawals and cravings.

Here are some ways to manage your urge to vape.

  • Get active by going on a walk, run, or other physical activity. This can take your mind off the craving and help increase your energy.

  • Do something different from what you are doing. Distracting yourself, such as doodling, playing a game, or simply changing your routine for a couple minutes can help you manage your cravings.

  • Text or talk with someone else.

  • Get rid of all vaping gear. Removing things that may have to do with cigarettes or vaping around the house can decrease temptation.
