The yearly 2022 reports have come out. One of them being that vaping has increased in the past year. With over 2.5 million teens using it, the addiction for flavored air has risen to its max.
THE NUMBERS
The number of stores that sell vapes have increased drastically. This means that vapes are easily accessible to teens. Around 85% of teens vape in the last year. Studies have shown that 1 out of 20 adults vape. In the last decade more adults and teens have turned to vaping. In a survey conducted by scientists, more teens prefer e- cigarettes than cigarettes.
More statistics are listed below:
Data has shown that people who vape can experience nausea, sore throat, headache and a cough. These simple short term effects can lead to long term effects that can seriously damage the cardiovascular and respiratory system.
Although the long term effect of vape has not been discovered yet, scientists know that vaping can cause inflammation to the lungs. Inflammation to the lungs causes scarring and narrowing of the lung’s tubes.
Not only does vaping affect the one who vapes, but it affects society. Data has shown that 5,000 of kids under 5 years old have gone to the hospital due to being exposed to nicotine. In more recent years, teens and adults have been hospitalized with multiple lung diseases.
EVALI is a serious lung disease that has been reported to be common due to vaping. The medical condition occurs when substances in vapes and e- cigarettes enter the body and lungs. Over 2,800 people are hospitalized due to EVALI. Unfortunately, the number of people who have the disease is growing.
Although many teens and adults turn to vaping because of stress, the effects of nicotine can cause worse mental issues in the future. Studies have concluded that vaping can lead to depression and anxiety. Vaping can cause damage to the brain’s functions. This leads to an inability to make memories and have proper emotional and critical thinking.
